The Minnesota State Capitol celebrated its centennial in 2005. The Capitol has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. Cass Gilbert was the architect of the Minnesota state capitol. In the fall of 2005, a young female bald eagle was discovered building a nest at Ritter Farm Park in Lakeville. As of May 2008, Lakeville’s pair of bald eagles appear to be caring for at least one new eaglet. Last year, their first as a nesting pair, the two successfully hatched two eaglets that grew up, learned to fly, and left the nest. The eagles have been spotted in various locations throughout Lakeville in every season.
